Rotary Bengaluru Gulmohar
Born from the personal aspirations of 02 veteran Rotarians, PDG Rtn. Rajendra Rai and PP Rtn. Balachandra, the default choice of Leadership for Club Gulmohar was yet another seasoned Rotarian PHF Muralikrishnan, who has consistently demonstrated acumen to design and lead large projects since the year 1996.
The town of Tiptur in Karnataka, also known as “Kalpataru Nadu” (land of the wish fulfilling tree), has been a favourite destination for Rtn.Muralikrishnan, for he has had the privilege of restoring several Hindu places of worship in that area, purely out of personal passion. Needless to say, Tiptur was the automatic choice for the Members of Rotary Gulmohar when they saw the need to identify a rural hinterland in the State to initiate community projects. Thus Tiptur emerged as the “karma bhoomi” or the land of action for Rotary Gulmohar Satellite.
As early as mid-2019, Rotary Gulmohar Satellite had adopted 4 Government Schools which were in dilapidated condition and in need for urgent repairs and renovation. Rotary Gulmohar Satellite swung into action and spruced up these 4 schools, one of which is as old as 135 years and was built by the then Maharaja of Mysore; thus a historical place of learning was also resurrected – thanks to the initiatives of Rtn. Muralikrishnan and his Team. Further, 18 other schools also benefitted by the largesse of the Club, when children of these schools were provided access to books, computers, benches, uninterrupted power systems et al.,
The tryst with Tiptur continues; now with Rotary Gulmohar as a stand-alone Club, the influence of this club in and around Tiptur has only grown exponentially. At the time of this report being prepared, 4 interact clubs, 1 Satellite Club and 4 Rotaract Clubs have since been installed – all of which are under the care and guidance of Rotary Gulmohar.
The Club has identified several high-impact projects for that region; some of them being the setting up of a eye care centre (with facilities for surgery), afforestation of forest area, rejuvenation of lakes on 30 acres of land etc.,
“We have just begun and our journey shall continue”, says Rtn.Muralikrishnan; “more so with the guidance and blessings of the District Governor and his Office bearers, mentors like PDG Rtn.Rai and PP Rtn Balachandra and other wellwishers of our Club” he goes on to say.
Rotary Club Gulmohar led by Charter President Muralikrishnan, ably supported by Secretary Rtn.Sudha Rani and a very highly capable Board of Directors shall leave no stone unturned on this journey to make a difference in the lives of the less-privileged.

The first motto of Rotary International, “He Profits Most Who Serves Best,” was approved at the second Rotary Convention, held in Portland, Oregon, in August 1911. The 1989 Council on Rotary Legislation established “Service Above Self” as the principal motto of Rotary, since it best explains the philosophy of unselfish volunteer service.
6 – THE 4-WAY TEST
It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932. The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100 languages and published in thousands of ways. The message should be known and followed by all Rotarians.
“Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”
8 – FOUR AVENUES OF SERVICE
- “Club Service” involves all of the activities necessary for Rotarians to perform to make their club function successfully.
- “Vocational Service” is a description of the opportunity each Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of one’s vocation to the other members of the club.
- “Community Service” pertains to those activities which Rotarians undertake to improve the quality of life ( of youth, aged, handicapped etc.,) in their community.
- The Fourth Avenue, “International Service,” describes the many programs and activities which Rotarians undertake to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace. International Service projects are designed to meet humanitarian needs of people in many lands.
11 – WOMEN IN ROTARY
Until 1989, the Constitution and Bylaws of Rotary International stated that Rotary club membership was for males only. In 1978 the Rotary Club of Duarte, California, invited three women to become members.
13 – THE CLASSIFICATION PRINCIPLE
Virtually all membership in Rotary was based upon a “classification.” Basically a classification describes the distinct and recognized business or professional service which the Rotarian renders to society.
In other words, if a person is the president of a bank, he or she is not classified as “bank president” but under the classification “banking.”

In many Rotary clubs throughout the world, wives of male members are affectionately called “Rotary Anns”.
